A historic island property, still growing

The Inn at Ship Bay is an eleven-room inn set on a bluff above the water, just outside Eastsound village. Its story begins with the land: an old farmhouse, an heirloom orchard, and generations of island life shaped by the seasons.

Today, the inn welcomes travelers who want to experience Orcas Island at a gentler pace with beautiful views, genuine quiet, and a setting that feels deeply connected to this place. 

The farmhouse at the heart of the inn

Michael Adams homesteaded the property in the 1860’s, and the farmhouse built in 1869 remains at its center. The surrounding orchard became part of Orcas Island’s early agricultural economy, producing apples, pears, and plus on the rich hillside above Ship Bay.

Several acres of heirloom fruit trees still surround the inn. They lend the property its character throughout the year, from spring blossoms and green summer canopies to ripening fruit and autumn color.

Caring for a place that matters

We see ourselves as caretakers of something larger than an inn. The orchards, farmhouse, open grounds, water views, and wildlife all contribute to the character of the property and to the experience our guests come here to find.

Our work is to honor that history while thoughtfully renewing the inn for its next chapter: preserving what makes the property special, making guests feel genuinely cared for, and creating more reasons for both travelers and the Orcas Island community to gather here over time.

The Inn at Ship Bay is owned by three Orcas Island residents brought together by a shared belief in the restorative power of this place. We are building on the inn’s long history with care, curiosity, and a deep respect for the island community we call home.
